Rose of Jericho is a long-established manufacturer and supplier of materials used for the decoration and repair of traditional buildings. We are fully-familiar with the range of issues surrounding the appropriate treatment of older buildings and are able to advise on, and provide, materials tailored to the needs of individual projects. Our clients include Historic Royal Palaces, Cathedrals, the National Trust and English Heritage, but we are just as interested in Britain's churches, cottages, townhouses, and farmhouses, as we are in these prestigious projects. Our products are used throughout the U.K and we supply both trade and retail customers.

Paints: Rose of Jericho makes limewashes, distempers and sheltercoats; emulsions; flat oil and eggshell paints. All our paints are hand-made in Dorset and available in an exciting range of colours from the historic to the contemporary; and the highest quality earth and mineral powder pigments are used in all of them. Our limewashes and distempers are made to traditional recipes using simple natural ingredients. We manufactured the sheltercoats used at the Corona Chapel, Canterbury Cathedral judged 'highly commended' in the Natural Stone Awards 2011. This year, our distemper paints have been used for the re-decoration of Wren's St Mary-le-Bow, Hawksmoor's St George's Bloomsbury, and Inigo Jones' St Pauls Covent Garden. Our limewash has been used for the redecoration of Hawksmoor's St Alfege Greenwich, and for the Cloisters at Chichester Cathedral. We made the exterior limewash and internal distempers for Strawberry Hill House (Inskip + Jenkins), the paints for Ven House in Somerset, the new Visitor Centre at Stowe Landscape Gardens, a castle in Belgium and for a large property in the south of France. We have also supplied paints for many architectural design and decoration projects for Freeland Rees Roberts, Chester Jones Ltd, and Hugh Leslie Ltd.

Limes, lime mortars and plasters: We slake various types of lime and all lime putty is matured for a minimum of six months. We stock a wide range of ready mixed lime bedding and pointing mortars, haired basecoat and finish plasters and external renders. We stock both Singleton Birch and St Astier hydraulic limes together with a wide range of sands, sieved stonedusts, coal ash, charcoal and pozzolanic additives. This year we have manufactured materials used at Exeter and Salisbury Cathedrals, and have advised and supplied materials for the repair and conservation of Great Hall Court at Hampton Court Palace (Martin Ashley Architects). We have supplied internal plasters for countless repair projects and the external render for the Hanham Hall zero carbon development in Bristol.

Analysis + Consultancy: We are expert analysts of historic mortars and hold a national aggregates library. We can determine the precise constituents and replicate any mortar. We have an archive of more than 5500 historic mortars tested. An analytical study has just been completed for Kew Royal Kitchens, and are currently analysing plaster from St Albans Cathedral and advising on the re-rendering of the 14th century Canons Cloister at Windsor Castle. We continue to advise on projects in the USA and have just completed a study in Grand Rapids, Michigan together with several projects in Belgium and France.

The sad news this year is that St Blaise Ltd has gone into administration. We have been totally independent of St Blaise since 2003 and are therefore unaffected by this, but we have lost a 'friend' with whom we have had a longstanding close relationship. St Blaise was one of the very finest of conservation builders, and hugely influential in the world of historic building repair - it will be greatly missed.

Many materials are supplied from stock, but orders should be placed by phone as some mortars and most paints are mixed to order. They can be collected from our workshops at Holywell, Dorset, or delivered nationwide on a next day service. We are located on the A37 Yeovil to Dorchester road, 10 miles north of Dorchester, and well signposted. Customers are very welcome to visit and look around. Our showroom is available for customers to view large paint boards and consider colour combinations, and A4 colour swatch folders can be borrowed.
