DESCRIPTION: |
G.B.F.S (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag) is classed as
a latent hydraulic binder, but in practice can be used as a pozzolanic additive.
Pozzolans improve the strength and durability of lime mortars. Pozzolans
are defined as materials which, though not cementitious in themselves, contain
constituents which will conbine with lime at ordinary temperatures in the
presence of water to form stable insoluble compounds possessing hydraulic
properties. |
G.B.F.S. |
G.B.F.S is a by-product of the iron production process. Lime
is added to the furnace to combine with impurities in the iron-ore. The
impurities are extracted as silicates containing calcium, iron and aluminium. |
APPEARANCE: |
Fine powder.
|
AVAILABILITY: |

Fine powders of nuisance dust classification. Use gloves, overalls,
facemasks and respiratory protection as appropriate to working environment.

To be mixed, possibly in slurry form, with lime mortar immediately before
use. Add at 5%, 7.5% or 10% by volume to mortar depending on the particular
circumstances.
