PRODUCT DATA SHEET

DESCRIPTION:

P.B.D (Pozzolanic Brick Dust) is a reactive pozzolanic additive. Pozzolans improve the strength and durability of lime mortars, and reduce porosity and permeability.
Pozzolans are defined as materials which, though not cementitious in themselves, contain constituents which will combine with lime at ordinary temperatures in the presence of water to form stable insoluble compounds possessing hydraulic properties.

P.B.D.

P.B.D is a crushed brick produced from a diatomaceous clay brick fired at low temperature (c.850ºC). It is the crushed brick used in the English Heritage "Smeaton Project". Crushed brick and tile have been added to lime mortars since pre-Roman times, and the principal reason for the remarkable durability of Roman mortars and lime-concretes.

APPEARANCE:

A fine pink powder.

SHELF LIFE:

Indefinite stored in dry conditions.

HEALTH & SAFETY

Fine powders of nuisance dust classification. Use gloves, overalls, facemasks and respiratory protection as appropriate to working environment.

OBSERVATIONS:

To be mixed with lime mortar immediately before use. Add at 5%, 7.5% or 10% by volume to mortar depending on the particular circumstances. Mixes in the proportions 1:3:1 (Lime:Sand:Brickdust) have performed well in trials.
